The Russian Air Force PAK DP is a high speed interceptor project designed as the replacement for the Mig-31BM and Mig-31K/BP aircraft beginning in 2026-2028 timeframe. The MIG Corporation is developing the new aircraft with the Research & Development (R&D) scheduled to start in 2019. The PAK DP may well be a sixth generation aircraft capable of flying at extremely high altitudes with a cruise speed around Mach 4-4.3. In January 2016, it was revealed that the new aircraft will be named Mig-41. In August 2021 it was revealed that the Mig-41 would be equipped with Radio Photonic radar to engage a huge number of targets such as stealth fighters and hypersonic missiles. The new Mig-41 hypersonic aircraft is expected to perform its maiden flight in the 2023-2025 timeframe and reach initial operational capability in the 2028-2030 timeframe.

As of late November 2021, the project seemed to be discontinued in favor of the Mig-50 hypersonic aircraft and an upgraded version of the Mig-31.
